Information You Submit
Search Terms
When a name, location, or similar query is entered into a search box powered by a partner service, that query is sent to the third-party provider that operates the tool. Dickenson County Inmate Population does not keep its own local log of those search terms.
Messages
If you email us or send a contact message, we use the information in that message to review and answer it. We do not share contact messages outside the organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Automatic Site Data
Like most websites, the site may receive basic technical data when pages load. This can include:
- IP address.
- Browser name and version.
- Device type and operating system.
- Pages viewed and time spent on pages.
- Referring website, when one is available.
- Date and time stamps.
Cookies
Cookies and similar tools help measure site use and keep features working. You can block cookies in your browser settings, but some pages, ads, analytics, or partner features may behave differently if cookies are disabled.

External Websites
The site links to jail rosters, sheriff pages, court portals, state corrections pages, federal locators, Virginia FOIA resources, and third-party search tools. Once you leave this site, the destination website's privacy policy and terms control how information is collected and used.
Advertising partners may use their own cookies or identifiers to measure ads and tailor advertising across websites. That tracking happens through their systems, not through a public-record file hosted here.

We do not sell personal data. Information may be received by these parties when needed for the site to function or when required by law:
- Search partners that process submitted queries.
- Analytics providers that measure site performance.
- Advertising networks.
- Law-enforcement or government bodies under a valid subpoena, court order, warrant, or similar legal process.
Security Practices
Reasonable administrative and technical safeguards are used for information handled by the site. No internet-connected system is completely secure, so we cannot promise that data will be immune from unauthorized access, misuse, or technical failure.
